Mobile devices for the future of today’s business

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

The mobile phone is the most widely-used electronic device on the planet, with about a third of the worlds’ population having at least one. Globally there are more than 3 times more mobile devices than PCs.

The average U.S subscriber spends a half hour a day on a cell phone. The usage is not only voice but a variety of data related applications from games to mobile invoicing.
With the evolution of the pocket pc from the HP-75 with 1-line text display to the PocketPC of today with built-in cell phone, the mobile device has become a very powerful tool for the small business.

Many business owners are just now tapping in to what technology has to offer. Mobile devices can be used for inventory tracking to route management, to calling on customers. Using a mobile device in the outside sales environment reduces human errors, and helps your company go green.

Think how much time, paper, and money could be saved if the order placed by the salesman was invoiced electronically. bMobile Technology has the technology available now. And with an average return on investment of 3 to 4 months, it’s a smart decision for the future of your company.

Chosing the right wireless printer

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

When people begin the process of looking into a mobile sales solution, printing invoices in the field is a part that needs to be considered. These printers use a Bluetooth wireless connection to the mobile computer.

The first choice that needs to be made is the style and size of the invoice to be printed, 8.5 X 11 full size paper or a smaller 4” thermal size. The 4” thermal printers that we recommend are the Printek Fieldpro or a Zebra RW420, both of these printers are also in a rugged category that can handle the daily abuse from a mobile environment.

Both of these printers are small and compact. They have rechargeable batteries that have enough power to supply multi day use in the field without needing a recharge. They use a thermal print head so no ink cartridges are needed.

The full size printer options are either HP 470 WBT or a Canon Pixma ip 90, both of these are compact as well, they are not rugged and need to be left inside a vehicle plugged into a power inverter from the cigarette lighter. Another drawbacks of this type of printer is replacement of the ink cartridges, depending on your printing needs you may be replacing these cartridges a couple times per month.

For these reasons I like the 4” thermal printers better, the paper is on a long roll and the thermal head only requires to be cleaned periodically. The other is the ability to take this printer into the store with you for printing, this makes it a time saver not having to return to the vehicle after you have captured the signature on the mobile computer, print the invoice then walk back into the store to drop it off with the clerk

bMobile travels to CraftBrewers Association in April

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

At bMobile there are lots of markets that we enjoy doing business within, including bakeries, ice cream, and tasty mexican food products. But we’ve found that beer goes well with all of them! We have several customers that are distributors of fine brewed products and these partnerships have helped us see how we can assist other beverage companies, including the breweries themselves.

In an effort to help the industry run more efficiently and get those goods to market, bMobile recently joined the CraftBrewers Association. Many of the breweries are self-distributing, meaning that they can run their own trucks and handle their distribution without outside assistance.

bMobile wants to show breweries how to do what they do best without having to worry about managing the daily business of distribution. To accomplish this, we will be traveling to San Diego on April 18-19th to meet the good folks from the CraftBrewers Association where we will demonstrate our easy-to-use and powerful bMobile Route Manager solution for beverage distribution!

We’ll be showing off the latest in mobile hardware, including barcode scanners from Symbol and Intermec, mobile printers from Zebra and Printek, and other Pocket PC based solutions such as cell phones and PDA’s that can be used in the field to complete ordering and delivery.

The bMobile Route Manager is a full Route software package that integrates to your back office accounting system. Whether you are using QuickBooks, SAP Business One, Cougar Mountain, or some other package, our technical staff can bring them together for a total management solution.

We look forward to sampling a few great microbrews, talking shop with the brewers, and showing how we can bring our inventory, warehouse, and route management solution to them. Stop by and see us in San Diego!
